Why I'm Running
John Lowndes is a native Central Floridian who has spent his career in public service, not politics. A graduate of Edgewater High School, John went on to earn degrees from Florida State University and the University of Florida, before becoming an attorney focused on municipal, commercial, public interest and healthcare law. While John and his wife, Julie, raised their family in Maitland, John was elected to the City Council in 2013 and as Mayor in 2021. Along the way, John has developed a reputation as a calm, practical leader – someone who builds consensus without drama or politics, and who has guided major investments like a new public library and downtown revitalization. Now John is running for State Senate to bring that same practical, solutions-oriented leadership to Tallahassee – fighting for lower costs, higher wages, and a government that actually works for people, not special interests.
